Leadership Courses for Credit
Leadership courses through the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership are 1-3 credit academic courses designed to prepare students for leadership responsibilities on campus and in the larger community. Upper and lower-division leadership courses are offered. Courses offered are listed below:
H ED 297A -- Exploring Leadership (2 units)
Description: This course will cover a broad range of areas associated with effective leadership. Today's students encounter a world that demands a new level of intellectual sophistication, intellectual literacies, and social engagement from college graduates.

EDL 270 -- Social Justice Leadership (2 units)
Description: Societal issues (gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, class) will be discussed. The course will equip students with skills to bring about positive societal change in the community by increasing personal awareness expanding knowledge, and encouraging action.

EDL 271 -- Service Leadership (2 units)
Description: Students will explore the connection between leadership and community involvement through concepts of philanthropy/volunteerism, community service, civic responsibility, civil society, citizen leadership and social change.

EDL 272 -- Professional Development and Leadership (2 units)
Description: Students will become prepared for transition from college into graduate school/career by enhancing professional development and leadership skills. Topics discuss: career exploration, graduate school preparation, finances, job search strategies and community development.

EDL 280 -- Leadership Strategies (2 units)
Description: This course is designed to offer paraprofessional training for student leaders in various campus leadership programs. Students learn student leadership development skills as well as campus-based policies and procedures related to their leadership positions.

EDL 281 -- Event Planning and Leadership (2 units)
Description: This course will train students involved with the Arizona Collegiate Leadership Conference planning committee on event planning and management by learning skills such as how to work with teams, develop marketing strategies, manage budgets, network and create a vision.

EDL 282 -- Leadership in the Student Enrichment Program (2 units)
Description: This course is taught within the Student Enrichment Program for students to learn about student success skills and graduate school preparation.

EDL 291A -- Leadership and Involvement Preceptorship (1-3 units)
Description: This course allows students who serve as coordinators, teaching assistants, and high-level facilitators for Greek Life, Leadership, Campus Activities, Commuter Student Affairs and student organizations to practice and reflect upon their leadership skills.
Grading: Alternative grades are awarded for this course: S P F.
May be repeated: For credit 3 times (maximum 4 enrollments).

EDL 293A -- Leadership and Involvement Internship (1-3 units)
Description: This course allows students who serve as program advisors, research and assessment assistants, and project developers for Greek Life, Campus Activities, Commuter Student Affairs and student organizations to practice and reflect on their leadership skills.
Grading: Alternative grades are awarded for this course: S P F.
Prerequisite(s): Must be interviewed and selected by Center for Student Involvement and Leadership staff.
May be repeated: For credit 3 times (maximum 4 enrollments).

EDL 297a -- Topics in Leadership (2 units)
Description: This course is designed to offer leadership skills and strategies for student leaders in various campus programs.
Grading: Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E.

EDL 370 -- Critical Perspectives on Leadership in Society (2 units)
Description: This course focuses on understanding and critiquing how leadership is designed and perceived in American society, critically examining structures and values of current leadership models, practices, and systems, and identifying social change through innovative leadership vision.

EDL 396A -- Topics in Leadership (3 units)
Description: Topics in Leadership offers a seminar style learning environment focusing on contemporary issues in local, national, or global leadership education.

May be repeated: For credit 3 times (maximum 4 enrollments).

Check out the schedule of classes for each semester and register on-line. There are no applications to take the course, although some courses are restricted for particular groups of student leaders. Various courses are offered each semester and enrolling in a course is included in the cost of tuition for full-time students.
