LGBTQ and Ally Leadership

The ATLAS LGBTQ and Apply Leadership certificate is designed to give students an opportunity to learn about the LGBTQ community, its history, and the issue it faces as well as ways to be an ally or advocate.

The 5 required workshops for the Level I certificate are:

Safe Zone Training Learn how to develop an environment that is safe and inclusive. This workshop is 2 hours.

LGBTQ History Because LGBTQ people have often been ignored in history books, many of us don't know our own history--and if we don't know where we've been, how can we know where we are going? What are the key US historical events for the LGBTQ movement, and who are our leaders--past and present? Please join us for a fun, interactive, and eye-opening introduction to US LGBTQ History.

Systems of Oppression How does oppression manifest itself in our institutions? This workshop looks at the dynamics of oppression and focuses specifically on how oppression of LGBTQ individuals is institutionalized.

The Legal Landscape From marriage and civil unions to employment discrimination, the LGBTQ community faces many legal challenges. This workshop will introduce participants to those challenges.

Being an Ally or Advocate What is an ally? What is an advocate? Are you an agent of change? This workshop reflects on the responsibility we have to take action and explores ways to effectively Stand Up! for social justice.

The Level II certificate requires the following workshops and activities:

LGBTQ Youth LGBTQ youth face unique challenges...this workshop will look at some of those challenges and teach participants ways that they can be allies and advocates for them.
